Mein aur Mr.Khaana

Born and brought up in India has certain privileges.Amongst them is the wide variety of delicacies that one can savour.Unique food for each festival.Coming from a Oriya family I can recollect a festival every month. There is a saying that there are 13 festivals in 12 months in our calendar.I counted once and it was much more than that. But who cares about the count as long as one gets a "pet-full" of delicacies.

I developed a sweet tooth since childhood ,a factor common to every Oriya living thing. Those days "meetha ho jaye" meant actual sweets made from flour, milk solids, sugar etc and not a tad of cadbury Dairy Milk. So whenever there was a chance to pounce on the sweets kept in the fridge or in a tin dabba,I wouldn't let the opportunity go begging.

I would eagerly wait for the guest to come to house.Either they would bring sweets or my parents would get for them.It was a win-win situation for me.An overdose of sweets would invite a stare from the parents. But it was more of a concern rather than a warning. The concern about the white worms that get liberated early morning due to sweets overdose. Which would result in a 1 day ban from gobbling any more sugary thing.

I had learnt multi tasking as a kid.One eye would be on the textbook while the other one would be keeping a watch on the sweets getting prepared in the kitchen.Every 10 mins or so a lame excuse would prop up and I would step into the kitchen checking the proceedings. All Mom's know what's going on in their child's mind.So she would carefully give me one of the specimen without attracting the attention of my brother and sister.

Even I played my part with near perfection.I would make sure that there is no trace of the food inside our outside my mouth.I would return back to my lonely textbook. But by now Lion has already tasted the blood so his attention to the book will only be short lived. I would wait impatiently for my mom's call to the dining area.A second serving would follow soon.

Someone famous had said " A thing of beauty is a joy forever".I would like to extend his observation to "A thing of great taste makes you yearn for it forever".
